1990-04-14 Mike McCallum w co 11 Michael Watson, Royal Albert Hall, Kensington, London, England - WBA. Referee: Roberto Ramirez. Although Watson (160) forced the pace for much of the fight the cagey champion, using solid blows to the head and body, was far too experienced to fight his rival’s fight. It had become noticeable by the fifth that the Englishman was running out of ideas. By the eighth Watson was taking a fair amount of blows to the head as McCallum (159¾) leathered into him, but he hung in through the pain despite being desperately tired. Into the 11th, however, with Watson now at the mercy of McCallum three solid blows sent the challenger reeling into the ropes before a crashing right to the head put him down for the full count. The finish was timed at 2.22.
