1990-06-02 Marcos Villasana w rsc 8 Paul Hodkinson, G-Mex Centre, Manchester, England - WBC. Referee: Arthur Mercante. Fighting for the title vacated by Jeff Fenech, for seven rounds Hodkinson (125½), despite being cut over the left eye in the second, pounded away at the stout-chinned Villasana (125) with hooks, jabs and crosses until disaster struck in the eighth when his right eye also gave way. Villasana, who had been pecking away at Hodkinson all night, saw this as his big chance and took it. A left uppercut dropped Hodkinson to his knees, and on rising and taking the mandatory ‘eight’ count the referee stopped the fight with just two seconds of the round left.
