1990-07-08 Jorge Paez drew 12 Troy Dorsey, Harrah’s Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - IBF/WBO. Referee: Richard Steele. Scorecards: 115-113, 112-116, 114-114. For many of the 12 rounds contested, Dorsey (125¾) had the champion against the ropes where he would bang in body shots, while Paez (126), failing to make good use of his reach advantage hit back in spurts. The turning point came in the eighth when Paez finally freed up to land some brutal uppercuts, and although Dorsey kept going the champion’s better work from thereon enabled him to retain his title. Both men finished damaged, with Paez cut on the left eye and Dorsey virtually unable to see through his badly swollen eyes.

Paez relinquished the WBO version of the title in November before vacating the IBF equivalent in April 1991, in order to campaign at junior lightweight.
