1990-07-19 [[Lindell Holmes]] w rsc 9 [[Carl Sullivan]], The Kingdome, Seattle, Washington, USA - IBF. Referee: James Reilly. Making his first defence, Holmes (167) started emphatically when having Sullivan (166½) down in the third, wobbling badly in the fourth and staggering all over in the seventh. Despite being hurt in the seventh, especially by a blow to the jaw that threatened a knockout, Sullivan came back strongly in the eighth when catching Holmes with lefts and rights. However, following that Holmes was in total control and when Sullivan was flattened face down after being hit by four smashing rights to the head the referee stopped the fight immediately, the finish being timed at 45 seconds of the ninth round.
