1990-07-29 Jeff Lampkin w co 8 Siza Makathini, Hilton Hotel, St Petersburg, Florida, USA - IBF. Referee: Bill Connors. Defending his title for the first time, Lampkin (190) found Makhatini (187) a tough customer to handle and one who always tried to hit back, especially in the sixth and seventh when backing him up with solid combinations. There was not a great deal in it coming into the eighth, but after 2.04 of the session Makhatini had been counted out after being set up by a right to the jaw followed by a crunching left hook to the body. Lampkin relinquished the IBF version of the title in July 1991 on signing with promoter, Don King.
