1990-09-11 Luis Mendoza w rsc 3 Ruben Dario Palacios, Jai-Ali Fronton, Miami, Florida, USA - WBA. Referee: Eddie Eckert. Contested for the vacant title and a rematch, it started slowly with Mendoza (120¼) using his five-inch reach advantage to keep Palacios (120¼) at bay before bursting into life in the third round. Taking Mendoza to the ropes and firing in a long uppercut, Palacios was beaten to the punch by a terrific right over the top and dropped like a log. Although he managed to make it to his feet, Mendoza poured in punch after punch on the by now defenceless Palacios and it was just a matter of time before the referee called it off, which he did on the 51-second mark.
