1990-09-22 [[Tony Lopez]] w pts 12 [[Jorge Paez]], Arco Arena, Sacramento, California, USA - IBF. Referee: Robert Byrd. Scorecards: 117-111, 117-111, 117-111. Moving up a division for a crack at the title, the IBF/WBO featherweight champion, Paez (130), put up a good fight in the early rounds, matching Lopez (129¾), as both men threw punches from all angles. But from the fifth Lopez was beginning to grind Paez down with good, solid body punches, and into the middle part of the fight the latter was being drained. Well in control by the tenth Lopez seemed happy to coast, while Paez found enough energy to go for the big finish, scoring repeatedly with solid blows from both hands, but it was too late.
