Fighting bravely, the challenger, Velasco (115), somehow lasted the distance despite being cut over the left eye in the fifth round and put down in the tenth from stiff left hands. He even managed to push the switch-hitting Ruiz (115) back in the later stages, but by then the latter had eased off on his way to the unanimous decision.
