1990-12-01 [[Loreta Garza]] w disq 11 [[Vinny Pazienza]], Arco Arena, Sacramento, California, USA - WBA. Referee: Larry Rozadilla. In maintaining his hold on the title, Garza (139½) proved that he was a worthy champion when dominating the rough, tough Pazienza (140) throughout with a left jab that rarely missed its target. As early as the first round Pazienza was badly staggered and cut under the right eye and by the end of the third he was also suffering a cut under the other eye, having come under fire from Garza’s accurate jab. The big surprise was that Pazienza seemed unable to get inside the jab and was forced to fight on the outside for round after round. By the 11th it had become clear that Pazienza was going backwards, especially after he’d been deducted two points earlier for illegal tactics, and when he almost lifted Garza out of the ring in frustration the referee had seen enough and disqualified him with one second of the session remaining.
