1991-01-19 Meldrick Taylor w pts 12 Aaron Davis, Convention Centre, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - WBA. Referee: Arthur Mercante. Scorecards: 115-112, 116-111, 116-111. Outclassing the champion in every department and proving to be a multi talented fighter, Taylor (145) started with cracking left hooks and solid rights to head and body before continually increasing the tempo and moving up the gears. It wasn’t that Davis (145½) was not working hard, but he was being outflanked and outpunched and despite showing great determination he lacked the tools to stop Taylor’s advance. Towards the end, however, Taylor began to move more and more out of range and although Davis was occasionally able to catch up with him, especially when doing good work in the 11th, he was unable to close the gap.
