1991-02-15 Manning Galloway w rtd 8 Gert Bo Jacobsen, Town Hall, Randers, Denmark - WBO. Referee: Mariano Soto. Using his considerable height and reach to good advantage, the southpaw champion was in total control of Jacobsen (147) from the fifth, having come back from a standing ‘eight’ count in the third after he went down from more of a slip than a punch. In that same round, Jacobsen received a cut on the left eye that would eventually get so bad that he would be forced to retire at the end of the eighth. Although Galloway (145½) was also cut on the left eye in the fifth the damage would not worsen too drastically and in the seventh he dropped Jacobsen on one knee with a left to the head. With the doctor continually inspecting the Dane’s dangerously swollen eye in the eighth it was no surprise when his corner decided not to send him out for the ninth.
