1991-05-17 [[Manning Galloway]] w rtd 7 [[Racheed Lawal]], KB Hall, Copenhagen, Denmark - WBO. Referee: Ismael Fernandez. Having won 19 of his 20 contests prior to challenging for the title, the Sierra Leone-born Lawal (143) was expected to give a good account of himself against the wily, shifty Galloway (146½) in front of the home fans. For the opening three rounds it was relatively even but after that it became one-sided as the southpaw champion began to open up, catching Lawal with ease. It quickly became apparent that Lawal, with the build of a lightweight, did not have the strength to contain Galloway, who was far superior and actually kissed his rival on the forehead in the sixth. Although he was not floored, Lawal was unable to get going and after the fans turned on him he retired in his corner at the end of the seventh. At the time of Lawal’s retirement the scorecards read 69-65, 69-65, 68-65, all in favour of Galloway.
