1991-05-18 Darrin Van Horn w co 11 Lindell Holmes, Sports Palace, Verbania, Italy - IBF. Referee: Robert Byrd. Having gone well for the opening three rounds the champion was knocked down by a right over the top from Van Horn (165½), and although the referee did not start a count it was the first significant punch of the fight. Shaken up again in the sixth from a right to the head, when Holmes (166½) was cut over the left eye in the seventh from there onwards Van Horn pegged back any deficit with short bursts of punches in virtually every session. Coming out for the 11th on tired legs, following a series of vicious blows Holmes was dropped by a left hook under the ribs and counted out on the 1.49 mark.
