1991-06-22 Chris Eubank w pts 12 Michael Watson, Exhibition Centre, Earls Court, London, England - WBO. Referee: Frank Cappuccino. Scorecards: 116-113, 115-113, 114-114. In what was a very close fight, although the champion appeared to be marginally ahead at the halfway stage Watson (160) came on very strong towards the end. By the final bell Watson thought he had won by a country mile, but with the heavier punches in the fight being landed by Eubank (160) that was what ultimately gained him the decision.

After Eubank relinquished his WBO version of the title in July in order to challenge for the vacant WBO super middleweight crown, Gerald McClellan and John Mugabi came together to find a new champion.
