1991-06-28 Azumah Nelson drew 12 Jeff Fenech, Mirage Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Joe Cortez. Scorecards: 116-112, 113-115, 114-114. Looking to win his fourth world title at different weights, Fenech (128¾), who traded blows with the ageing champion from the first bell, looked to have done enough. No quarter was given and none taken as the pair slugged it out during the opening ten rounds, but the remaining two sessions saw Nelson (129¾) fighting on instinct alone as Fenech bullied and battered him around the ring without respite. Somehow Nelson stayed upright, with the rematch being a certainty.
