1991-08-12 Manuel Medina w pts 12 Troy Dorsey, Great Western Forum, Los Angeles, California, USA - IBF. Referee: Robert Byrd. Scorecards: 115-112, 115-111, 114-111. Having fought tooth and nail to get to the title, Dorsey (125¼) lost it in his first defence despite having Medina (125¼) on the floor from short right hands in both the second and third rounds. Medina, who had a five-inch reach advantage and had outboxed Dorsey in the opener, went back to his boxing to get himself out of trouble and by the fifth he was already beginning to back his man up with lots of lightweight flurries. Medina was not hurting Dorsey, who ended badly cut over both eyes, but his movement and speed gave him a clear advantage and he won the second half of the fight clearly to become the new champion.
