1991-10-18 [[Ray Mercer]] w rsc 5 [[Tommy Morrison]], Convention Centre, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - WBO. Referee: Tony Perez. Making a good start against the champion, Morrison (221¾) got away well, banging in punches and had it almost all his own way until the last few seconds of the third round saw the tide beginning to turn. The fourth round saw Mercer (225) getting a foothold in the contest as he began to belt Morrison with solid right hands, and pushing on in the fifth it suddenly became one-way traffic. At this stage of the fight Morrison was out of it as Mercer smashed in punch after punch against his defenceless opponent who was belatedly rescued by the referee after 25 seconds when he finally went to the floor, having taken a fearful hammering.
