1991-11-20 Gerald McClellan w rsc 1 John Mugabi, Albert Hal1, Kensington, London, England - WBO. Referee: Roberto Ramirez. In a battle to decide the vacant WBO title between two big punchers, it was McClellan (158½) who came out on top when dropping Mugabi (157½) three times in the opening session to enforce a stoppage win under the three knockdowns in a round ruling after just 120 seconds of fighting. It was McClellan’s right hand that proved to be decisive, and although Mugabi tried his utmost to fight on each time he was back on his feet he had no defence against the punch.

After McClellan relinquished the WBO version of the title in March 1993 to challenge for the WBC crown, Sumbu Kalambay and Chris Pyatt were matched to find a new champion.
