1991-11-22 [[Genaro Hernandez]] w rtd 9 [[Daniel Londas]], Sports Complex, Epernay, France - WBA. Referee: Waldemar Schmidt.  Contesting the title vacated by Joey Gamache, Hernandez (128½), with height and reach advantage, became the new WBA champion when he systematically outboxed and outpunched Londas (129¾), who grew desperate when unable to get to close quarters. Probing with the left and sending in chopping rights to the head, interspersed with sweeping left hooks, saw Hernandez go clear as the veteran Frenchman, cut on the left eye in the fourth, tried to respond in the middle rounds before he was dropped twice in the seventh, damaging his right eye in the process. Although he made a huge effort in the eighth it was to little avail and in the ninth he retired himself on the 1.07 mark after getting up at ‘nine’ from a heavy knockdown which saw him land awkwardly on his arms.
