21 December Orlando Canizales w rsc 11 Ray Minus, Civic Centre, Laredo, Texas, USA - IBF. Referee: Barry Yeats. As in recent defences, Canizales (118) was again content to counter and move, although it soon became apparent that Minus (117¼), a late substitute, did not have the artillery to bother the champion. To his credit though, he took a punch well and showed good hand speed before Canizales, deciding that he’d had enough and cranked up with a cracking right hand in the 11th round that left Minus badly dazed. Despite him not going down, the referee had seen enough and called it off on the 1.45 mark.
