1992-02-06 Mauro Galvano w pts 12 Juan Carlos Gimenez, Ice Palace, Marino, Italy - WBC. Referee: Larry O’Connell. Scorecards: 115-114, 119-115, 116-114. After three close rounds, the champion began to find the range with the jab and settled down into a monotonous rhythm, beating a steady tattoo on the plodding Gimenez’ features. Gimenez (167½) tried hard to get to close quarters, but to no avail, being tied up by Galvano (167) again and again. From the middle rounds onwards the fight had turned into a dull, mauling affair with Galvano deciding to concentrate on nullifying the Paraguayan’s work rather than keeping him at distance with the jab, which had been so effective earlier on.
