1992-03-01 [[Azumah Nelson]] w rsc 8 [[Jeff Fenech]], Princes Park, Melbourne, Australia - WBC. Referee: Arthur Mercante. Following their earlier contest Nelson (129) was expected to lose his title in this one, but by forcing the pace he made a great start in the opening session when firing in a right over the top to drop Fenech (129) for ‘five’. There was much of the same in the second and again Fenech was put down, this time only momentarily. The pattern of the fight was set and after Nelson cut his rival over the right eye in the fourth he took time out before almost finishing the Aussie off in the sixth, the bell coming to the latter’s rescue. In the eighth, Nelson finally made his move and three left hooks followed by a right to the head put Fenech down for ‘three’, and moments later, at 2.20, the referee called it off when the challenger was under pressure yet again.
