1992-03-14 Manuel Medina w pts 12 Fabrice Benichou, Swimming Pool Arena, Antibes, France - IBF. Referee: Randy Neumann. Scorecards: 115-112, 114-113, 114-115. Badly cut in the opening round by an unintentional butt, the champion was decidedly cautious for the first six rounds and received an ‘eight’ count in the fifth after he was pushed-punched over by a left-right. There was no doubting the determination of Benichou (126) as he gave it everything, but he was too one paced and predictable, and often relied on a single punch. Needless to say, Medina (126) used his reach well and had too much all-round skill for the European champion, which he used to good effect in the second half of the contest.
