Line 1: Line 1:
25 March Duke McKenzie w rsc 8 Wilfredo Vargas, Royal Albert Hall, Kensington, London, England - WBO. Referee: Joe O’Neill. Content to make a slow start, McKenzie (117¼) soon got down to business with a steady stream of left jabs and right crosses finding their target, while Vargas (118) mainly missed when punching wildly. Although he continued to march forward, the challenger, cut on the left eye in the fifth round, was getting gradually beaten up and in the seventh McKenzie smashed home four consecutive right handers, the last of which dropped Vargas on all fours. Despite Vargas getting up and answering the bell commencing the eighth, he was soon shipping punishment without return, the referee rescuing him with just 58 seconds on the clock.
