1992-04-10 Julio Cesar Chavez w co 5 Angel Hernandez, City Bullring, Mexico City, Mexico - WBC. Referee: Arthur Mercante. Switching from orthodox to southpaw in an effort to confuse Chavez (138¾), the unbeaten Hernandez (139½) made life difficult for the champion for a few rounds before he was eventually ground down. Chavez, who reportedly had to lose a fair bit of weight beforehand, looked out of sorts for much of the contest and had difficulty working Hernandez out, especially when the latter led with his head. However, he finally caught up with his man in the fifth when crashing blow after blow into the by now bloodied Hernandez, who was trapped in a corner, before a pulverising right to the body left the Puerto Rican lunging over and the referee jumping in to stop the fight after 1.11 of the round had elapsed.
