1992-04-22 Reggie Johnson w pts 12 Steve Collins, Meadowlands Arena, East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA - WBA. Arthur Mercante. Scorecards: 115-113, 115-114, 114-114. Contesting the vacant title, Collins (160) fell short for the second time when he was unable to overcome his clever southpaw opponent. The Irishman was fighting on equal terms until the halfway stage before Johnson (159) got his right jab going, and in the tenth his right eye was badly cut. Despite this, Collins tore in to Johnson in the final two sessions and although he made up some of the leeway with solid blows to the head he was unable to find a finisher. Both men were deducted a point each for going low and Collins, who picked up another one for illegal use of the elbow, felt afterwards that the American had used his head unfairly to gain an advantage.
