1992-04-23 Orlando Canizales w pts 12 Francisco Alvarez, Winter Circus, Paris, France - IBF. Referee: Al Rothenberg. Scorecards: 119-110, 120-110, 120-108. Coming straight out at the opening bell, his left hand beginning to beat a steady tattoo on the challenger’s face, Canizales (118) proved to be a class above the challenger and was soon banging in left hooks to head and body in an effort to bring Alvarez (118) down. However, the Colombian turned out to be a real tough guy who was not intimidated by the superior skills of Canizales, and how he avoided going down under a tremendous pounding in the sixth only he knew. Having expended a fair bit of energy trying to finish the fight early, Canizales settled for the points from then on.
