1992-05-16 James Warring w pts 12 Johnny Nelson, Hugo’s Nightclub, Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA - IBF. Referee: Chris Woolleson. Scorecards: 118-111, 120-108, 117-111. Up against the hard-punching champion, Nelson (189¼) went down by a big margin on the scorecards as he generally stayed out of range and failed to threaten. It was only the inexperience of Warring (188) that allowed Nelson to go the distance, being unable to cut the ring down, and even when he caught up with his man he failed to get his punches off apart from landing a big right in the eighth. According to the press Nelson froze and it was left to Brendan Ingle, his manager, to state that his man had every chance of winning but was just too tense.
