1992-06-12 [[Joey Gamache]] w rsc 8 [[Chil-Sung Chun]], Cumberland County Civic Centre, Portland, Maine, USA - WBA. Referee: Chris Christodoulou. Following [[Pernell Whitaker]]’s decision to move up a weight class, Chun (135), who had only fought three times in the previous three years, met Gamache (135), the former WBA junior lightweight champion, to decide the vacant title. Moving in and out at great speed, Gamache’s tactics baffled the South Korean, who apart from stalking his rival did very little else other than throw hooks from distance in the opening couple of rounds. Badly cut on the left eye in the second and then over his right eye in the third, Chun was reduced to chasing Gamache with single shots, while the latter stole the eye with good combinations before concentrating on body blows. However, with Chun’s corner failing to stem the bleeding, at the end of the eighth with Gamache well in front on all of the cards the referee stopped the fight.
