1992-07-15 [[Genaro Hernandez]] w pts 12 [[Masuaki Takeda]], The International Centre, Fukuoka, Japan - WBA. Referee: Roberto Ramirez. Scorecards: 117-111, 119-109, 120-108. Boxing well within himself the tall champion made a solid start with long jabs and hooks, and despite sustaining a hand injury in the fourth he moved into a clear lead which was maintained virtually for the remainder of the contest. Although Takeda (129½) occasionally offered up big rights and lefts and fought spiritedly in the seventh and eighth rounds he rarely troubled Hernandez (129¼), who finished strongly.
