1992-07-30 [[Al Cole]] w pts 12 [[James Warring]], Waterloo Village Open Air Arena, Stanhope, New Jersey, USA - IBF. Referee: Rafael Ramos. Scorecards: 116-111, 117-110, 114-113. In what was a difficult fight to score, with the champion mainly on the back foot and Cole (190) trying to catch him up, it was made even more difficult for the latter when he was cut over the left eye in the second round after being held in a bear-hug. Warring (188) continued to hold on despite being deducted a point in the third and it was not until the middle rounds that he got down to work, catching Cole with big right hands in the seventh and eighth. Two of the final three rounds went to Cole after he had rocked Warring in the tenth and followed up with good blows to head and body, and that was plenty enough for him to take the title.
