1992-08-01 Julian Jackson w pts 12 Thomas Tate, Hilton Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Richard Steele. Scorecards: 117-111, 116-111, 116-111. In becoming only the third man to take the champion the distance, Tate (159) put up a good fight, almost giving as good as he took once he got his left jab working to good effect. Only in the fourth round was he in serious trouble as Jackson (159) finally put him down, three solid blows from both hands doing the damage. Although it looked as though Tate was ready to go in the fifth he came right back to have Jackson in some trouble. Then, in the eighth, Tate was right up against it before coming back hard and that remained the pattern of the fight right up until the final bell.
