1992-09-29 Virgil Hill w pts 12 Frank Tate, Civic Centre, Bismark, North Dakota, USA - WBA. Referee: Bernie Soto. Scorecards: 116-112, 118-116, 120-109. Fighting for the title that Iran Barkley had relinquished and the belt he once held, Hill (175) boxed an excellent tactical campaign to beat Tate (175), forcing the fight with left jabs and hooks. Tate, who was cut over the right eye in the third, was always in the contest but failed to throw enough leather and allowed himself to be caught up in clinches far too often. In the 11th Tate shook up Hill with a right to the jaw before the latter came back with rights of his own in the final session.
