1992-10-16 [[Anaclet Wamba]] w pts 12 [[Andrew Maynard]], Pierre De Coubertin Stadium, Paris, France - WBC. Referee: Mickey Vann. Scorecards: 118-110, 118-112, 116-113. After making a disastrous start, being knocked down heavily by a right to the jaw in the opening round, Maynard (179¾) somehow made it to the bell and even though he was cut over the left eye in the second and hurt by more right hands he recovered to pose problems for the champion in the third. In several rounds Maynard outworked Wamba (184¾) and the latter was given a rest in the seventh after being hit low. By then, Maynard’s left eye was closing, but he was still there giving Wamba problems right up until the end despite the champion’s better work gaining him a clear win on the cards.
