1992-10-24 [[Tony Lopez]] w rsc 11 [[Joey Gamache]], Cumberland County Civic Centre, Portland, Maine USA - WBA. Referee: James Santa. Despite being well outreached, Gamache (135) made a reasonable start against the former two-time IBF junior lightweight champion as he darted in-and-out with the jab in the earlier rounds to build up points before he began to slow down by the seventh. By then Gamache’s left eye was closing fast, but he was still able to keep away from the still dangerous but frustrated Lopez (134½), who had pursued him throughout with little success. However, by the 11th fatigue had really caught up with Gamache and having spent most of the fight chasing shadows, Lopez moved in with a vengeance. As Gamache broke free from another clinch he was nailed by a cracking right hand, which was followed by yet another, and he was down. Just about up at the mandatory ‘eight’ before staggering into the ropes, Gamache was deemed to be unfit to continue by the third man, who called a halt 40 seconds into the session.

Despite being well outreached, Gamache (135) made a reasonable start against the former two-time IBF junior lightweight champion, darting in and out with the jab in the earlier rounds to build up points before he began to slow down by the seventh. By then Gamache’s left eye was closing fast, but he was still able to keep away from the still dangerous but frustrated Lopez (134½), who had pursued him throughout with little success. However, by the 11th fatigue had really caught up with Gamache, and having spent most of the fight chasing shadows Lopez moved in with a vengeance.
