1992-11-09 Carlos Gonzalez w rsc 6 Lorenzo Smith, Great Western Forum, Los Angeles, California, USA - WBO. Referee: Raul Caiz. Coming into the fight with a seven-inch reach-advantage, the challenger immediately got his left jab working to outscore Gonzalez (138) in the opening three sessions. However, after feeling the latter’s power in the third he was never as effective again. The jabs were still going in from Smith (139) in the next couple of rounds, but getting caught by heavy counters towards the end of the fifth he was cut in the corner of the right eye. Affected by the injury, Smith went to pieces as he frantically tore around the ring to keep his distance from Gonzalez, and at the end of the sixth the referee stopped the fight when it was clear that the challenger did not really want to continue.
