1992-11-13 Riddick Bowe w pts 12 Evander Holyfield, Thomas & Mack Centre, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - IBF/WBA/WBC. Referee: Joe Cortez. Scorecards: 115-112, 117-110, 117-110. Although Holyfield (205) fought gallantly, Bowe (235) was always ahead of him and when he opened up in the seventh with big punches from both hands it looked ominous for the champion. Holyfield, who already had a swollen right eye, was also cut over the left eye from a head clash in the eighth but with Bowe tiring he came on strong until a crushing right hand to the head in the tenth virtually finished him. How Holyfield stayed on his feet was almost miraculous as Bowe hit him with every punch in the book and some that were not. Holyfield even fought back towards the end of the session before being dropped by a left hook in the 11th. That was the end for Holyfield in terms of keeping his title, but Bowe could not finish him and at the final bell most of the cheers were for a champion who just would not lie down.
Bowe forfeited his WBC version of the title in December when failing to sign for a defence against their leading contender, Lennox Lewis. Lewis, who had stopped Donovan Ruddock inside two rounds on 31 October at the Exhibition Centre, Earls Court, London in a final eliminator, was immediately proclaimed WBC champion.
