1992-12-19 John David Jackson w rtd 10 Michele Mastrodonato, Sports Palace, San Severo, Italy - WBO. Referee: Stan Christodoulou. Although the challenger went on the attack right from the start, he never really inconvenienced Jackson (153¼), who easily controlled the fight with the southpaw jab and when able to banged in precise combinations. With just 16 fights under his belt, Mastrodonato (153¼) did not have the experience to deal with a man of Jackson’s class and despite showing grim determination the contest became very one-sided. After allowing his charge to start the tenth, once he could see that it was a hopeless case Mastrodonato’s manager threw the towel in on the 1.14 mark. The Italian was cut under both eyes and had taken a steady battering. Jackson relinquished the WBO version of the title in July 1993, due to difficulty making the weight.
