1993-01-10 Fred Pendleton w pts 12 Tracy Spann, Harrah’s Hotel, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - IBF. Referee: Randy Neumann. Scorecards: 117-111, 117-111, 116-112. In a rematch that would decide a successor to Pernell Whitaker, the opening round almost saw a repeat of their first contest when Spann (135) landed two solid lefts that had Pendleton (135) holding on. The aggressive southpaw certainly gained the respect of Pendleton, who was forced to take some big punches before he began to take over from the sixth onwards. While Spann was still dangerous, Pendleton was gaining in confidence as he covered up well and hit back with excellent counters and by tenth, as his rival was running almost on empty, he began to showboat prior to driving on to victory.
