1993-02-13 James Toney w rtd 9 Iran Barkley, Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - IBF. Referee: Richard Steele. Challenging for the IBF super middleweight title, the IBF middleweight champion, Toney (167) made a good start and by the fifth round was well in control, having landed the better punches, and closing Barkley’s left eye. Although Barkley (168) came back strongly he was still being picked off and rocked by solid blows to head and body. By the eighth, Barkley was fighting a totally uphill battle and after being under constant pressure in the ninth, bleeding badly from the nose and walking into solid shots, the doctor advised the referee to stop the fight at the end of the session.
