1993-02-20 Virgil Hill w tdec 11 Adolpho Washington, The Dome, Fargo, North Dakota, USA - WBA. Referee: Steve Smoger. Scorecards: 109-99, 110-98, 109-99. Pressing from the bell the challenger made a good start, banging in solid left jabs, and by the end of the opening round Hill (175) had been cut over right eye. Things changed dramatically in the second when Washington (175) was dropped heavily by a countering left hook and was then had his nose broken. Although the brave Washington, swollen over the left eye, kept going he was now severely handicapped and Hill was making him pay with stabbing left hands to the face and rights over the top. Having got back to his corner at the end of the 11th, the referee was still deciding whether to let Washington out for the final session when a cameraman got too close for a shot and inadvertently slipped and cut the latter’s eye right open. That immediately made up the referee’s mind for him and he was forced to go to the cards.
