1993-04-16 [[Giovanni Parisi]] w pts 12 [[Michael Ayers]], Lottomatica Sports Palace, Rome, Italy - WBO. Referee: Frank Santore. Scorecards: 118-110, 119-108, 118-109. Unable to avoid the jarring jabs that connected round after round as the champion fought most of the bout from a southpaw stance, Ayers (135) ultimately went down by a wide points decision. Once the switch-hitting Parisi (134) realised that he had Ayers’ number when leading with the right that was where he stayed and in the fifth after being dropped by a straight left the latter was forced to take the mandatory count. On several occasions Ayers looked like he would go, but he fought on. Cut over the left eye in the eighth following a clash of heads, Ayers bravely continued his forward march which brought more pain and in the 12th as Parisi went for the finish he touched down before the bell came to his aid.
