1993-04-17 Steve Robinson w pts 12 John Davison, Northumbria Leisure Centre, Washington, England - WBO. Referee: Bill Connors. Scorecards: 115-114, 115-114, 115-116. Contesting the vacant title after Ruben Dario Palacios had failed the medical for his defence against Davison (124¾), Robinson (124½), who had recently given up the day job to concentrate on boxing, was rushed in at short notice and stunned almost everybody by winning. The action started with Davison, a southpaw, working away with short hooks while Robinson covered up behind a high guard and landed good straight lefts in what was a closely fought contest. There was never much in it and it could have gone either way, but a sustained spell of aggression in the final two minutes, in which Davison’s gumshield was knocked out, swung it for Robinson.
