1993-04-26 [[Miguel Angel Gonzalez]] w pts 12 [[Hector Lopez]], Monumental Bullring, Aguascalientes, Mexico - WBC. Referee: Jose Medina Solares. Scorecards: 115-112, 117-112, 117-111. Although he made the mistake of trying to punch it out with his challenger, especially in the fourth when he was sent staggering by heavy rights to the head, Gonzalez (135) soon got back to his boxing, scoring well with solid jabs and good combinations. From the fifth round onwards, Gonzalez bemused Lopez (134) at times, his movement and countering often frustrating his fellow Mexican. There was no doubt that Lopez, who finished with damage to both eyes, was a dangerous customer but after failing to put Gonzalez away in the fourth he did not have the necessary tools to pin him down again.
