1993-05-08 [[Gerald McClellan]] w rsc 5 [[Julian Jackson]], Thomas & Mack Centre, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Mills Lane. In what was an explosive contest between two big punchers, Jackson (159), a man who had overcome retina operations on both eyes, lost his title to McClellan (160) when the referee stopped the fight after 2.09 of the fifth round. Both men were firing big punches from the opening bell, but the first sign of damage, a bad cut over Jackson’s left eye, came from a clash of heads in the third, for which McClellan had a point deducted. At the start of the fifth, Jackson was slightly ahead, but after twice being dropped by solid rights and lefts to the head for counts of ‘eight’ and ‘four’ and out on his feet the referee had seen enough.
