1993-05-08 Lennox Lewis w pts 12 Tony Tucker, Thomas & Mack Centre, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Joe Cortez. Scorecards: 117-111, 116-112, 118-111. Making his first defence, and unbeaten in 22 fights, Lewis (235) showed his class when outboxing and hurting his man several times. Lewis almost had Tucker (235) over in the second round and in the third a long right put the latter down for the first knockdown of his career. Although Lewis failed to finish it there and then he continued to walk Tucker down and in the seventh nearly had him over again before doing the trick again with a big right early in the ninth. Up at ‘three’, after taking the mandatory count Tucker came back with some big punches of his own to win the next two sessions as Lewis went on the back foot with the jab and while the latter was hurt a couple of times he was happy to box his way to the decision.
