1993-05-15 [[Chris Eubank]] drew 12 [[Ray Close]], Scottish Exhibition Centre, Glasgow, Scotland - WBO. Referee: Paul Thomas. Scorecards: 116-112, 113-116, 115-115. Having beaten [[Vincenzo Nardiello]] in Italy, Close (168) had certainly earned his crack at the champion, but regardless of that the Irishman was not really expected to pose too many problems. Setting a fast pace from the opening bell, Close worked away with both hands and even when occasionally hurt by right uppercuts he kept it together to match Eubank (168) blow for blow. Cut by the left eye in the eighth, Eubank began to put more urgency into his work and in the 11th he found a gap in Close’s defences to fire in a right uppercut to the jaw that dropped the latter heavily. It seemed as though it was all over, but Close amazingly got up at ‘eight’ and was soon taking the fight to the fast-tiring Eubank, who appeared lucky to retain his title at the final bell.
