Hardly using a straight punch, Matlala (110¾) battered Clinton (111¾), who was unable to keep the challenger at bay, with hooks and uppercuts to head and body throughout. Finally, with Clinton slumped on the floor, having been decked three times and badly cut on the left eye, the referee called a halt to the contest at 1.57 of the eighth.
