1993-05-15 [[Paul Weir]] w rsc 7 [[Fernando Martinez]], Scottish Exhibition Centre, Glasgow, Scotland - WBO. Referee: Ismael Fernandez. Following [[Rafael Torres]] being stripped, this one was contested for the vacant title. Weir (104¾), the first European to win a version of the mini flyweight title, and boxing in only his sixth contest, was too good for the tough Mexican, a replacement for El Salvador’s [[Rene Dimas]]. Dimas, who claimed to have taken part in eight unsubstantiated contests, had earlier failed a Californian neurological test, and once the promoters were aware of that he was quickly withdrawn. Although Martinez (105) did well during the first four rounds, after he was cut over the left eye his game plan went to pieces and Weir stormed forward to open further wounds before the referee halted matters at 1.28 of the seventh.
