1993-05-19 Chris Pyatt w pts 12 Sumbu Kalambay, Granby Halls, Leicester, England - WBO. Referee: Ismael Fernandez. Scorecards: 115-113, 116-114, 116-113. Contesting the title vacated by Gerald McClellan, Pyatt (158½) made a good start when winning the opening three rounds before Kalambay (160) got himself into the fight. Although throwing less than Pyatt the domiciled Italian was more accurate, and by the seventh he was right back in the fight, working from head to body and steadying his rival with solid jabs. Both men increased their momentum over the last three sessions, but it was Pyatt’s sheer desire despite being extremely tired that won the day as Kalambay failed to match the Englishman’s work-rate.
